When I listen to a client tell their story, I'm not just listening to the words. I'm also listening to my internal responses: to how my emotions are reacting, to if my body is responding. I'm "listening" to how everything that is me is receiving the client's story. As a psychodynamic counsellor, I'm paying attention to my counter-transference.
